About

Nicholas has undertaken a range of amazing and exciting projects and adventures over the years and nothing will slow him down. Being born with cerebral palsy and hearing impairment has presented many challenges throughout his life as this has been associated with a number of developmental delays. He has been a leader, an advocate, a swimmer and has a mind full of entrepreneurial ideas.

Since he was young Nicholas has always found a passion for swimming through the services of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Over the years he has developed the skill and pace to swim at a competitive level. He represented St Ives High School, through the Zone and Combined High School competitions, he also represented CPSARA through Several multi-class swim events over the years.

During high school, he took on a number of leadership roles from being the SRC Leader for the hearing support unit for multiple years to taking the lead in running Loud Shirt Day to raise funds for the hearing impaired. For loud shirt day, he organised a presentation to showcase the deaf and hard-of-hearing community through performances, speeches and even learning how to sign some basic AUSLAN.

In 2016 he took on the challenge to climb the tallest mountain in Australia, Mt Kosciusko and participated in the Krazy Kosci Klimb. This was definitely a challenge for someone with cerebral palsy but he remained focused and determined to keep going. During this fundraising event, his team managed to raise close to $20,000 for a great cause, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Then fast forward a number of years to 2021 when he decided to create his own fundraising event for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance to give back. The event was named 20km with 20 mates to represent the then statistic of every 20 hours a baby is born with cerebral palsy. He gathered 19 other individuals with cerebral palsy to swim a km each and raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. This event was a huge success as the team managed to raise just under $14,000.

In 2022 he joined an advocacy group called CPACTIVE. He took great pride in helping out in the campaign for the 2023 NSW election. The campaign was targeted at improving the education and employment system for people with disabilities. The group managed to get the Labour Party to commit to our policy before the election and is now working closely with them to make the system better for people with disabilities.

At the end of 2022, he started a podcast called the Accessible Travel Podcast’. This podcast is designed to allow people with disabilities to discuss their travel stories and organisations to talk about their products that improve accessibility for the disability community.
